Radio Schizoid
I guess they’d call this Mumbai based radio channel I discovered on Radio Garden a mix of psybient and dub and deep house.
To me it’s part of a subfolder of music I think of as zone-out music, as B music, music that I would’ve, back when I’d just started hoarding music on my computer, stored in a folder named B. Here’s what my folders were called:
A (for music that makes you want to jump, so usually dance music)
B (for music that makes you want to be)
Start (for ‘the classics’)
Select (for ‘the best’)
Up (for uptempo non-dance genres, punk shunk wagerah)
Down (for downtempo genres that didn’t just make you want to be, but that you could engage with, trip-hop downtempo falana)
Left (‘leftfield’ music, found sounds, noise, etc.)
Right (metal, just metal)
The html file for this radio channel would’ve sat awkwardly in the B subfolder of my Music folder.
Although I’d never really ‘gamed’ in my life, I chose a gaming-inspired folder naming system primarily because I was really into this one Moldy Peaches album when I came up with it, which had that wonderfully sweet song made popular by Juno, a movie I loved. Anyone Else But You. In that, there’s a reference to the Konami Code — up up down down left right left right b a start — which was apparently some sort of all powerful cheat code for Konami games (the only one of which I’ve played is Contra, in which I’ve completed a grand total of two levels).
Anyway, this Radio Schizoid is a super channel for B music, at night, dark room, candles, in the afternoon, lazyboy, blanket, you know the vibe.
